  • Sept. 28, 2009  Stephen Krashen's letter in Time Mazazine rebuts Sec. Duncan's claims about dysfunctional schools.
  • Sept. 9, 2009  In their annual campaign to inform parents of their right to opt children out of the  state test, CSAP,  the Coalition for Better Education has raised enough money for 1 1/2 billboards. Send in a couple of  dollars and help them rent that other 1/2 billboard:

  • Sept. 8, 2009 Susan Ohanian Tweets the Baca Bill, using StopNationalStandards as resource.
  • Sept. 8, 2009  Gerald Bracey responds to the Fresno Bee editorial.
  • Sept. 7, 2009  Don Perl describes what he calls "small acts of resistance": 
I have placed a small table outside my office door.   On the table a passerby can see our brochures, WHY WE OPPOSE CSAP, and in Spanish POR QUé OPINAMOS EN CONTRA DE CSAP.  (After all, we are now the School of Hispanic Studes.)  Next to the brochures, each morning, I place three of our political buttons, with the red line through the black acronym.  One by one the buttons disappear.  And little by little I see students wearing them.  The students are reading and taking the brochures too.
  • Sept. 7, 2009  Lynn Stoddard contacted the head of the Utah Education Association about the Baca Save Our Schools Act, which was referred to the House Education Committee on July 29, 2009. For members of this committee, go here.
  • September 1, 2009  From Michigan, Annie reports, "Every Sept. I write to my children's principals and teachers informing them that my children MAY NOT be tested for DIBELS. It works!
  • August 29, 2009  Crossing state lines, the Coalition for Better Education contributed to the travel expenses for Lynn Stoddard's drive from Utah to the Freedom in Education conference in Fresno.
         Marion also offers a PowerPoint directed at students, Hey Kid! Listen Up! This reminds us that we need student voices in this fight.
  • August 28, 2009 The Coalition for Better Education declared the Race to The Top initiative educational malpractice and criminal. You can leave your comments here.
  • August 27, 2009 Nancy Saltzman posted a link to the Stop National Standards on my Facebook page and got several positive
     comments from former parents of students and teachers.  A couple posted the link to their Facebook page.  
           And so news of the resistance grows.

  • August 26, 2009 In Utah, Lynn Stoddard has met with the president of the  Utah Education Association, telling her of his concerns. He reports having a good discussion. The president agreed to carry the petition to end NCLB--with 35,000+ signatures to NEA headquarters in Washington, D. C. when she meets with leaders there in September.
  • August 25, 2009  Stephen Krashen sent a letter to Language Educator (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages - ACTFL)
